From egg to hen

A pet goes through four life stages in the game: egg, chick, pullet and hen. It keeps growing on its own as long as it is fed.

1. 1

   Egg

   Eggs drop weekly. An egg hatches about a week after you get it — but only if it is fed; an unfed egg is moved to a warmer nest and never hatches.

2. 2

   Chick

   The egg hatches into a small yellow chick. It is too young to come onto maps with you yet, but you can already take photos of it in the photo booth.

3. 3

   Pullet

   The fluff is gone and the breed's colours come in. The game has no separate model for this stage: a pullet is the grown bird's own model, shown smaller. From now on it is cleared to deploy with you on maps.

4. 4

   Hen

   Fully grown and fully feathered: a Catalana, a Silkie or a Polish in one of its plumages.

The grown pet is one of three chicken breeds, each with its own model and its own set of plumages. Click any plumage to see it in 3D.

How CS2 pets work

• Pets cannot be traded

  Every pet carries the game's "cannot trade" attribute. You raise your own pet; it cannot be traded to another account or bought from one.

• One pet at a time

  A pet lives in its own loadout slot, and an account keeps one pet: the game blocks a new egg while you already own a pet.

• Feeding

  Chicken Feed comes in Weekly Care Packages, the reward you get for ranking up. A pet that runs out of food leaves, and a well-fed one eventually reaches the end of a long, loud life.

• Naming

  Pets can be named, and their name is shown above them in game next to yours.

• Photo booth and HatchBook

  Photos taken in the photo booth fill the HatchBook, a picture book of your pet's life. Older pets unlock more poses and map locations, and past books stay on your profile card.

• Every bird is a little different

  Each pet has a hidden pet seed. Its materials shift hue, saturation and facial colours by that seed, so two birds of the same plumage are rarely identical.

Facts on this page come from the game's own files (items_game and the English localisation). Plumage names are taken from the game's material files. Pets cannot be traded, so they have no market price.
